In surgical private practice for more than 25 years, Dr. Leon Egozi, MD, FACS, ABAARM, FAAMFM is one of South Florida’s most prominent surgeons, specializing in laparoscopic procedures, abdominal surgery, biopsies, breast and oncology surgeries. Dr. Egozi’s philosophy combines his extensive medical training and years of surgical expertise with the principles of Functional Medicine, resulting in an integrative, individualized and scientific approach to patient care.
Born to Cuban parents in Miami Beach, Florida, Dr. Egozi spent his childhood in Brooklyn, NY and Miami Beach, attending Miami Beach Senior High School. After graduating a year early from the University of Miami with honors, Dr. Egozi went on to receive his MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Dr. Egozi completed a five-year general surgery residency at Flushing Hospital and Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, spending his final year there as Chief Resident. During that time, he gained invaluable experience rotating through Memorial Sloan Kettering and other New York City-area hospitals, conducting research projects at Rockefeller University and New York Hospital, and publishing a study on transplant immunology.
After his residency, Dr. Egozi returned to Miami, where he began his private practice and affiliation with various local hospitals, including the Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, the Mount Sinai Medical Center, and Hollywood Pavilion.
After more than two decades of successful surgical practice, Dr. Egozi sought to explore new ways to personalize and progress his approach patient care, and began his training and board certification in the area of Functional Medicine. By doing so, he saw an opportunity to push the boundaries of what traditional medicine could offer his patients, focusing not only on the treatment of disease, but taking a more holistic approach to health that considers hormonal balance, nutrition, genetic predisposition and other important factors that can impact patient treatment and outcome.
Board certified with the American Board of Surgery since 1993, Dr. Egozi is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He currently serves on the medical executive committee at North Miami Beach Surgery Center, is on the robotics surgery committee at Aventura Hospital, and teaches general surgery residents at a program in the Miami area. Dr. Egozi is fellowship-certified with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and is board certified in Anti-Aging Medicine. Dr. Egozi is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Dr. Egozi is in the unique position of being a General Surgeon and able to treat patients surgically and incorporate functional medicine techniques in order to achieve better results and outcomes.
